Unit 1: Mandala
A mandala is a visual representation of your identity and culture. In my class, we did a activitive of mandala. We had a paper of a circle and we draw symbols hat means to us. For example, I use a symbol of gradution hat because that symbol means I wan to graduate school. We can't use logos because logics are not symbols. Logos is a company picture. Symbols and logos are way different. In my mandala, i drawed a soccer ball because I play soccer. Another one, is that I draw a paper but in the paper is a eye because I like to draw. Also, i drew my family with hearts around it because I love my family. Including, I drew my dogs with hearts around because I love them and they're part of my family. I drew some doctors' stuffs because I want to be a doctor or a nurse when I'm older. Also, wehad to put colors in our mandala that represents us. I add blue and purple as my colors to represent me because I like dark colors. Dark colors don't show out and it way different than warm colors. I made my mandala in a soccer ball because I want it to be different from others.
Unit 1: The House on Mango Street
I learned about Cisneros's identity from this piece is that not everybody is the same because we have different cultures and different religions. The House on Mango Street culture is Mexican. Their culture is Catholic because in The First Job said that "the Catholic high school cost a lot, and papa said nobody went to public school unless you wanted to turn out bad." It give a hunt that their cuture/reglion is Catholic. Here is a example of a memoir:"she sits all day by the window and plays the Spanish radio show and sings all the homesick songs about her country in a voice that sounds like a seagull." These example is that the big fat lady is sad because she misses her home, her country. There are lots of figurative language in her stories. The figurative language in this story is "my hair is lazy"-Hair; is a personficiation. The imagery in this story is "my papa's hair is like a broom, all up in the air."- Hair; its a imagery. Her using figurative language describe about the peoples' personality or how they look like.
Unit 1: Cultural tradition
The tradition that we discussed in class is Nepal traition because it's really cool and weird. It's really intersecting becuase the kids have to get married age at 8 or 9 years old. They need to get that age because the weddings are cheaper. Their weddings is a huge celebration for them. I think their wedding celebration lasted for a week or the weekend. First, the guy ask girl the propose front of the girl's family. Then, the next day, they do the ceremony at the bride's home.
